Optimize Your Packaging

“The show must go on,” as they say in Hollywood, and true to form, the pandemic merely postponed the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony this year. Colloquially known as the Oscars, this award ceremony shows off the couture stylings of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry just as much as the recent achievements in cinema. This upcoming Sunday, April 25, celebrities will gather in their red-carpet finest to acknowledge the highlights of the previous year… and considering how unprecedented 2020 was, I’m honestly looking forward to seeing exactly what achievements in filmmaking they will celebrate. I can hardly recall any films being released last year… I declined to fork over $20 to stream Trolls World Tour from my loveseat.

I digress; we are here to discuss the packaging! The Family Coppola winery is releasing a limited-edition wine in celebration of the event. This year’s wines are a 2019 cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay from Sonoma county in a shiny, gold-toned bottle. A simple gold-colored plate reads the Family Coppola name and “93rd Awards.” The design is minimalist but powerful- an obvious nod to the iconic Oscar statuette. (Does anyone remember the foreshadowing of the minimalist trend from my 2021 packaging trends blog?) This design isn’t quite as iconic as the label released for last year’s Academy Awards that featured a zoetrope from Francis Ford Coppola’s private collection, but considering that label took 5 years to perfect, I’ll give credit where it’s due. It’s still a pandemic, after all, and the 93rd Awards bottle is stunning nonetheless.
