When we’re not solving problems for customers, we are solving problems in our own backyard. We heard that the Promedica Hospice down the street needed blankets for their patients and I gathered the ForeFront team for an afternoon of blanket-making fun for a great cause!

A few weeks ago, our trusty salesperson Michele was in town from Atlanta, so I wanted to plan a special team activity! VolunteerMatch.com is a terrific website to search for community service opportunities, and when I read Promedica’s request, it tugged at my heartstrings:

“Many of our patients are wheelchair or bed-bound, and these blankets help keep them cozy and warm. Although all colors are welcome, we are always in need of red, white, and blue blankets for our veteran patients. We provide a bedside honoring ceremony for Veterans to thank them for their service. During this ceremony, we present them with a certificate, pin, and blanket.”

Isn’t that beautiful?! I am certain that a gesture like this would have meant the world to my late grandfather, a WWII veteran. In honor of Grandpa Skip, I decided this would be a fun and easy project that our team could all work on together, and the warm blankets would surely give us warm fuzzies along the way.

All you need to make fleece tie blankets are scissors and fleece fabric. Our amazing inventory manager Meredith and I headed over to JoAnn’s to pick out some fabric in Americana styles. Everyone on our team gathered around our large conference room table to cut and tie the double-sided blankets. We played music and laughed about who was the worst at tying knots. In the end, we created three blankets that would make Uncle Sam proud!

If the event coordinator at your company is looking for a great team activity that also contributes to a good cause, I highly recommend making fleece tie blankets! Blankets can be dropped off or shipped to the Promedica Hospice, but there may be a similar opportunity in your neighborhood.
